When first starting Folk Tale you will be presented with a menu of choices including Map Designer and Character Designer.
Click Map Designer with . Once the World Editor is loaded you will see an empty sepia background.
A Word of Caution
Being in development, it may not always be possible to make World and Location files designed with earlier patches backwards compatible.
That means that when we publish a new patch, there is a chance that any previous map designs will no longer work. For this reason, we strongly recommend you NOT to invest too much time in using the Editor.
Creating A New World
When first entering the World Editor, a gray dialog in the center of the screen will give you the option to Create new world or Open existing world.
This entry deals with creating a new world. If you wish to open an existing world to see how one is constructed, please see the entry titled Opening An Existing World below.
Click Create new world to continue.
Along the topbar are the tool buttons :-

Play - Play the current world
Along the left hand side of the screen is the kit browser. Key items include :-
Terrain Decals - Patches of color designing to sit just above terrain pieces; help blending
Trees - Clumps of trees for adding detail
Water - For setting the sea level
River - A river piece
Creating A New Location Map

Scroll down the list of kit pieces in the Kit Browser on the left hand side of the screen until you find the Location Pin item.
Double clicking on the Location Pin icon will create a new entry in the center of the screen.
Below the 3d representation will be a text label showing New Location. Above will be a windmill icon, either side of which are arrows (see image above).

Renaming A Map
To rename a map, click on the text label that shows New Location.
The label will highlight, and you can edit the name. When finished, press Enter.
Changing The Location Map Icon
Use the arrow icons to the left and right of the windmill icon to cycle through the available icons (shown below). Choose an icon that best represents your map.
Editing A Location Map
Note: save your world first by clicking the Save button icon on the topbar.
To edit a location map, click on the Location Pin 3D object. Doing so will show two context buttons above the pin.

Importing An Existing Location Map
Importing An Existing Map
Scroll down the list of kit pieces in the Kit Browser on the left hand side of the screen until you find the Location Importer item.
Double clicking on the Location Importer icon will open the File Browser (see image below).
By default, the File Browser shows other available worlds. It maps directly to the StreamingAssets/Data/Saves/Locations folder under the game installation folder.
You can move up the folder hierachy by clicking .., or open the contents of a folder by clicking on the blue folder icon.

Location Importer - Imports an existing location map
Once you have located the location map file you want imported, click Load. This will make a duplicate of the imported map and place it under your world folder.
The original (source) file will remain where it was. Please be aware that you now have two distinct maps.
There is no link between them. Updating a map in one world will not update the duplicate in the other world.

To delete a map, click on the Location Pin and press Backspace.
A confirmation dialog will appear asking you to confirm the deletion.
Adding Terrain
World maps are constructed out of terrain pieces that can be moved (W), rotated (E) and scaled (R) just like another other prop in the editor. On top of terrain, decals, trees and rocks can be added to provide visual interest.

To add a terrain piece to the world, click on the piece in the Kit Browser.
This will insert a copy of that piece in the view. By default, the piece will be selected, indicated by the white bounding box.
Please note that the map is currently sepia (brown). In a future release, we may move to color.
