WORLD EDITOR

WORLD CREATION TOOL

How To Access The World Editor
When first starting Folk Tale you will be presented with a menu of choices including Map Designer and Character Designer. Click Map Designer with Left Mouse Button. Once the World Editor is loaded you will see an empty sepia background.

A Word of Caution

Being in development, it may not always be possible to make World and Location files designed with earlier patches backwards compatible. That means that when we publish a new patch, there is a chance that any previous map designs will no longer work. For this reason, we strongly recommend you NOT to invest too much time in using the Editor.
Creating A New World
When first entering the World Editor, a gray dialog in the center of the screen will give you the option to Create new world or Open existing world. This entry deals with creating a new world. If you wish to open an existing world to see how one is constructed, please see the entry titled Opening An Existing World below.

Click Create new world to continue.

Scroll down the list of kit pieces in the Kit Browser on the left hand side of the screen until you find the Location Importer item. Double clicking Left Mouse Button on the Location Importer icon will open the File Browser (see image below). By default, the File Browser shows other available worlds. It maps directly to the StreamingAssets/Data/Saves/Locations folder under the game installation folder. You can move up the folder hierachy by clicking .., or open the contents of a folder by clicking on the blue folder icon.

Importing an existing location map

Once you have located the location map file you want imported, click Load. This will make a duplicate of the imported map and place it under your world folder. The original (source) file will remain where it was. Please be aware that you now have two distinct maps. There is no link between them. Updating a map in one world will not update the duplicate in the other world.
Deleting A Location Map

Deleting A Location Map

To delete a map, click Left Mouse Button on the Location Pin and press Backspace. A confirmation dialog will appear asking you to confirm the deletion.
Adding Terrain
World maps are constructed out of terrain pieces that can be moved (W), rotated (E) and scaled (R) just like another other prop in the editor. On top of terrain, decals, trees and rocks can be added to provide visual interest.

Adding Terrain Pieces

To add a terrain piece to the world, click Left Mouse Button on the piece in the Kit Browser. This will insert a copy of that piece in the view. By default, the piece will be selected, indicated by the white bounding box.

Adding terrain pieces to make the world map

Please note that the map is currently sepia (brown). In a future release, we may move to color.
